Participate in "Friends of EcoPark 2012/13" - the Driving Force for Promoting the Sustainability of Green Businesses

"Environmental protection" is not just a core issue for the government, it is also the integral part of the all-round development of each company and organization. Companies and organizations can contribute to the environment by developing more efficient energy-saving and emission-reducing mode of operation, as well as enhancing the environmental awareness of their staff.

Moreover, EcoPark has launched a "Friends of EcoPark" Scheme since 2010, in which company or organization that donates recyclable wastes (waste plastics, waste electrical and electric equipment, waste wood, waste cooking oil and waste car batteries, etc.) and establishes a partnership with EcoPark tenants can be accredited as a member of "Friends of EcoPark". As such, company and organization can build positive responsible corporate image as well as showing their caring images and gain goodwill for their businesses and services while contributing towards a greener and sustainable future.

Nominations for "Friends of EcoPark 2012/13" will be open soon. We hope that all partner companies of EcoPark tenants can take this opportunity to participate in the Scheme. We welcome all interested companies and organizations to learn more about the Scheme by visiting our website.

Tidbits of EcoPark
Visit to the South East New Territories Landfill

Nowadays, the waste management on municipal solid waste generated in Hong Kong mainly relies on landfills for disposal. With the rapid development of new towns, the distances between residents and landfills are getting closer, and the residents have higher concerns about the odor and environmental management of landfills. For this, the Community Relations Units of EcoPark visited the South East New Territories (SENT) Landfill in Tseung Kwan O in October 2012, to learn more about the design, operation, odor management of the landfill, as well as local waste management.

Visit to Chemical Waste Treatment Centre

The Community Relations Unit of EcoPark visited Chemical Waste Treatment Centre in Tsing Yi in October 2012. The centre is one of the waste management facilities of the Environmental Protection Department and has been operating since 1993 for treating chemical waste that cannot be disposed of in landfills. Since August 2011, an extra building was established to facilitate the collection and management of clinical waste.

The centre is divided into different zones including collection, analysis (with laboratory) and treatment zones for processing chemical waste by oil/water separation, physical/chemical treatment and incineration. Its emissions and discharges are strictly monitored by the Environmental Protection Department on a regular basis.

The Community Relations Unit of EcoPark visited the Chemical Waste Treatment Centre for a better understanding of the operation of chemical waste management in Hong Kong.
