Ground Breaking Ceremony of Baguio

The ground-breaking ceremony of the highest food-grade PET flakes and PE resins recycling facility in Hong Kong, officiating by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr. Wong Kam Sing and other guests was held at Lot T6 of the EcoPark on 25 September 2019. The 20-year lease was commenced on 29 November 2018 and New Life Plastics Limited (a JV company formed from Baguio, ALBA Group Asia Limited and Swire Beverages Holdings Limited) operates the plastics recycling facility.

Targeting to commence operation in Q4 2020, the promised minimum throughput capacity is 900 tonnes per month. The waste plastics collected, i.e. PET (drinks bottles) and PE (personal care product bottles) will be recycled into food-grade PET flakes and PE resins which will be exported for manufacturing of plastic products. The food-grade PET flakes can be used in bottle-to-bottle applications while lower grade PET flakes derived from coloured input materials can be used to produce textile products such as clothing, pillows, carpets, etc. PE resins can be used to produce plastic products for general use.

Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre Soft Opening Ceremony

The soft opening ceremony of the "Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre Limited (HKBR)" was hosted on 25 September 2019. HKBR is a waste lead-acid battery recycling facility in Hong Kong. The Secretary for the Environment, Mr. Wong Kam Sing and the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Listing Department of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Ms Grace Hui and other guests officiated at the ceremony.

The HKBR’s recycling plant is designed as 2 phases. The recycling processes in Phase 1 include battery breaking & separation, lead grids & paste de-sulphurization and sulphate solution crystallization and the plant has commenced operation in September 2019. HKBR will start the plant development of Phase 2 in which the operations are mainly lead smelting in furnace – heating up the lead grids & paste and turn them to lead metal / bullion and the plant is expected to commence operation in 2022. The promised minimum throughput capacity will be 300 tonnes per month.

 
 
Special Tours

Representatives from the "Asia Global Institute Fellow Program" of The University of Hong Kong visited EcoPark on 3 October 2019. The tour was started with a presentation of the background and latest development of the EcoPark, followed by a guided visit to the Visitor Centre and an arranged bus tour to the tenants and facilities.

Activity Information
Eco Expo Asia 2019

EcoPark participated in the "Eco Expo Asia 2019" between 30 October and 2 November 2019. A booth was set up to promote the recycling business of the tenants and the latest development of the EcoPark. It also provides a platform for our tenants to explore business opportunities and hence promotes the development of the local environmental and recycling industry. A Virtual Reality (VR) headset was used to provide an immersive experience of the green architectural features of the EcoPark and Visitor Centre to the participants.
