"Friends of EcoPark 2013/14" Award Presentation Ceremony



The 4th "Friends of EcoPark" Award Presentation Ceremony was held successfully on 22 July 2014 (Tuesday) at the HKPC Building in Kowloon Tong, with a view to recognizing the public and private sectors for their contributions to waste recovery and recycling under the Scheme.

The ceremony was attended by over 150 representatives, with award certificates were presented to 68 organizations. One of the winning organizations, Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited, shared their experiences of adopting green practices in offices and how the Scheme has helped put sustainable green practices in their daily operation. Representatives of the EcoPark tenants, St. James' Settlement WEEE GO GREEN and Li Tong Group, also spoke of the latest developments of their recycling businesses.

The Scheme will continue to advocate sustainable collaboration among private and public sectors and the EcoPark tenants, which jointly promotes recycling and reduction of waste resources, and makes a long-term commitment to environmental protection and conservation.

Yan Oi Tong Plastic Recycling Partnership Scheme 2013/14 Award Presentation Ceremony



Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre held the Yan Oi Tong Plastic Recycling Partnership Scheme 2013/14 Award Presentation Ceremony at the Conference Hall of HKPC Building in Kowloon Tong on 18 July 2014, with a view to commending the participation and support given by each participating organization of the Scheme. Over the past 4 years, over 850 organizations from the public and private sectors had participated in the Scheme, with an encouraging result of nearly 5,500 tonnes of local waste plastics were processed. Ms. Christine Loh, JP, Under Secretary for the Environment, Ms. Jenny Ng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yan Oi Tong and Dr. Lo Tai Chin, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yan Oi Tong were invited as guest of honors to the ceremony. Special Visits
3 June 2014

The Netherlands Delegation on waste management sector visited EcoPark to learn more about the recycling business in Hong Kong. Besides paying a visit to the Visitor Center, they also met and exchanged views on waste management with the representatives of EcoPark tenants -- St. James' Settlement WEEE GO GREEN, Hong Kong Hung Wai Wooden Board Company, and K.Wah Construction Products Limited.

The summer exchange course for the students of Arizona State University organized by Department of Public Policy, City University of Hong Kong paid a visit to the EcoPark Visitor Center to learn more about the waste treatment and management policy of municipal solid waste in Hong Kong.

A delegation of officials from Environmental Protection Bureau, Macau paid a visit to the EcoPark Visitor Centre and a few EcoPark tenants, St. James' Settlement WEEE GO GREEN and Champway Technology Limited, to learn more about the daily operation of local recycler.

Food Sharing Scheme

Over 3,500 tonnes of food waste are generated daily in Hong Kong; some of these are valuable food resources. Greeners Action has launched the Food Sharing Scheme to collect food donation from donators since 2013, with a view to reducing food wastage. Type of food collected includes vegetables, fruits, soybean products and bread, etc. Collected food is sorted and redistributed to the needy in Cheung Sha Wan and Wong Tai Sin districts at the night time on the designated weekdays. Lessons to Green
Make your own eco-mosquito trap

To get rid of bugs is so easy now by tuning waste plastic bottle and waste paper into a safe and eco-friendly mosquito trap.


Materials: A cleaned plastic bottle, a piece of waste paper, 50 grams of sugar, 200 milliliters of warm water and 1 gram of yeast.
Tool: A cutter/ a pair of scissors, adhesive tape.
   

Step 1:
Cut off the plastic bottle into bottom and top parts, then pour sugar and warm water into the bottom half and stirring.


Step 2:
Add yeast into the mixture while cooling down without stirring, then put the top half up-side-down without the cover into the bottom half and fix with adhesive tape.


Step 3:
Wrap the eco-mosquito trap with waste paper for fixing and decoration purpose, and place it in a dark corner to get rid of bugs.
