EcoPark Workshop: How to Create Win-Win Situation for Enterprises and Recyclers when Managing Industrial Wastes?

The EcoPark Management Company and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), joined hands with the Federation of Hong Kong Industries to organize a workshop named "How to create win-win situation for enterprises and recyclers when managing industrial wastes?" on 16 October 2013.

Representatives from three waste recyclers operating in the EcoPark -- Champway Technology Limited, South China Reborn Resources (Zhongshan) Company Limited and Li Tong Group -- spoke of how they can assist enterprises to treat waste in an environmentally-friendly manner by recycling waste resources effectively, thereby creating win-win situation for enterprises and recyclers. In addition, representative from EPD introduced how waste management measures can be implemented in the industrial and commercial sectors, and pointed out that on top of practicing the 3Rs (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle), clear objectives have to be set and environmental consciousness of staff has to be enhanced in order to maintain a sustainable environmental performance.

Nominations for "Friends of EcoPark 2013/14" is now open

EcoPark has been taking the leading role to promote corporate social responsibility and sustainable management philosophy in the commercial and industrial industries. Since 2010, EcoPark has been launching the "Friends of EcoPark" Scheme, with an aim to recognize organizations that made contributions to the well-being of the environment.

The "Friends of EcoPark 2013/14" accepts nominations from now on till 31 December 2013. Commercial and industrial organizations which have established collaborative partnerships with the tenants in EcoPark are entitled to receive nomination from the tenants. With the member identity of the new generation of "Friends of EcoPark", organizations can demonstrate their positive corporate images of caring for the environment to the public, and at the same time, explore new opportunities for further collaboration with other tenants and other members of "Friends of EcoPark".

We hope that all partner organizations of EcoPark tenants can take this opportunity to participate in the Scheme. We also welcome all interested organizations to learn more about the Scheme by visiting our website.

 
Tidbits of EcoPark
Visit to Eco Expo Asia 2013

The Community Relations Unit of EcoPark visited Eco Expo Asia 2013 in late October 2013 to learn more about the latest development and application of environmental technologies in the waste treatment and recycling fields, and to communicate with recyclers to enhance the understanding on waste management.

Two of the EcoPark tenants -- Li Tong Group and E-Tech Management Limited, also joined the Expo to showcase their recycling operations to the public and recycling traders around the world.
 
Special Visits
15 October 2013

Delegations from Nansha District Government of Guangzhou visited the EcoPark Visitor Centre and the recycling plants of several recyclers operating in EcoPark to learn more about waste recycling in Hong Kong.
 
17 October 2013

A delegation of 21st Century Business Herald, the Mainland media, visited EcoPark and featured on Champway Technology Limited and EcoPark WEEE Recycling Centre operated by St. James' Settlement, to learn more about the condition of recycling industry in Hong Kong.

Participants of "Workshop on Recycling of Waste White Goods" of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation on Environmental Protection visited EcoPark and two WEEE recyclers operating in EcoPark -- Li Tong Group and EcoPark WEEE Recycling Centre operated by St. James' Settlement. All the participants showed much interest in the operation and recycling processes of the plants.

Guide of Tenants

"Community Action on Waste Reduction – Use Less, Reuse, Recycling" Waste Reduction and Recycling Competition in Tuen Mun Housing Estates

EcoPark tenant, Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre, is cooperating with the Environment, Hygiene and District Development Committee of Tuen Mun District Council and its Green Working Group, to organize the "Community Action on Waste Reduction – Use Less, Reuse, Recycling" Waste Reduction and Recycling Competition in Tuen Mun Housing Estates among 20 housing estates from 1 October 2013 to 31 December 2013. This campaign is also supported and co-organized by several organizations, including one of the EcoPark tenants -- K. Wah Construction Products Limited , New Opportunity Company Limited - Tuen Mun and Yuen Long Recycle Center and Yan Oi Tong Rainbow Community Integrated Development Centre. Activities include housing estates recycling competition, housing estates promotion day and guided tours to the recycling facilities in EcoPark.

The campaign aims to promote clean recycling, enhance public understanding and awareness on waste reduction, and public engagement in practicing environmental protection. During the campaign period, residents can collect waste plastics and waste glass bottles in exchange for gifts at the designated time and place. The top three housing estates with the highest recycling rate will be granted a certificate in recognition of the valuable support and contribution given by the residents to waste reduction and recycling.


Here WEEE Go Upcycling Exhibition 2013

Since 2010, St. James' Settlement, one of the EcoPark tenants, has been launching a "Here WEEE Go" programme in collaboration with CLP Power Hong Kong Limited. This programme aims to collect and restore unwanted electrical appliances by WEEE GO GREEN project for donation to the underprivileged.

This year, a group of students from the Hong Kong Design Institute were invited to fully utilize their creativity to upcycle discarded electrical appliances and components into green household furniture and accessories. This series of upcycling items were showcased at Here WEEE Go Upcycling Exhibition 2013 held recently at iSQUARE in Tsim Sha Tsui, with a view to promoting the importance of giving a second life to waste electrical appliances. Plugs and extension sockets were turned into hooks. Food trays and candlesticks were made from parts of fan and blender.
The representatives of EcoPark WEEE Recycling Centre, together with the students of the Hong Kong Design Institute gave the green household furniture, coffee table and stool which were made of perforated tubs of washing machines, a thumb up.

"CareLender 2014" turns over a new page of green life

With the year 2014 soon approaching, the Conservancy Association (CA) re-launched the "CareLender" which is made from recycled paper and printed with eco-friendly soy ink.

"CareLender 2014" is designed in a brand new weekly calendar format with less paper use while providing more in-depth green information featuring on five main themes: "conforming to nature; low-carbon living, respect for heritage, cherishing resources and caring for life. In addition, "CareLender 2014" integrates local creative elements into the traditional design of tear-off style calendar and paper-cutting illustrations, with an aim to conserving traditional cultures in a sustainable way.

CA hopes that the readers can apply the green ideas and tips learnt through reading the "CareLender 2014" to their daily lives, and can spread the message of caring the environment and sustainable living through sharing the "CareLender 2014" with others.
