What's New
"EcoPark Recycling Weeks 2012" is making a comeback on 29 July

  From 29 July to 1 September 2012, the EcoPark Management Company and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will launch "EcoPark Recycling Weeks 2012". With the invigoration from the public last year and the support from Hong Kong Housing Authority, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long District Councils this year, "EcoPark Recycling Weeks 2012" will spring up in 18 public housing estates in both Tuen Mun and Yuen Long Districts.

Through the series of recycling activities, EcoPark hopes to accomplish the goal of providing a waste sourcing platform for the 2 NGO-operating resources recycling centres - St. James' Settlement "WEEE GO GREEN" EcoPark WEEE Recycling Centre and Yan Oi Tong Plastic Resources Recycling Centre, as well as enhancing the residents' environmental consciousness and carrying forward the message of the importance of waste reduction and recycling.

Plastic Recycling Carnival

  Recently, one of our EcoPark tenants, Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre (also known as Yan Oi Tong) organized an inauguration ceremony for the territorial-wide plastic recycling campaign at the Amphitheatre of Lai Chi Kok Park, Sham Shui Po. Participants had the opportunity to develop better understanding of plastic recycling through booths, games and performances. Yan Oi Tong hopes to increase the public awareness of plastic recycling through this event. They look forward to having more opportunities to publicize this theme through educational activities to be carried out in different districts in Hong Kong.
Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee, JP , Permanent Secretary for the Environment and Director of Environmental Protection (eighth from the right on the back row) officiated the ceremony, and said "Yes" to participate actively in plastic recycling with all attending guests and students.

"The Community Chest Green Day 2012"

The 2-day campaign, "The Community Chest Green Day 2012", was successfully held recently. Precedentedly, the Community Chest brought out the "Community Chest Green Day" commemorative twin tickets to buoy up the use of greener public transport, providing the public with the opportunity in practicing low-carbon living. A "Green Tips Competition" was also held to elicit a surge of green ideas for sharing. (Shortlisted practicable green tips are now available as public resources on the website).

To achieve the dual-purpose of environmental protection and community service, the Community Chest encourages participants to donate books, electronic appliances and furniture to the resources recycling programmes launched by the 3 social welfare NGOs (HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre, the Salvation Army Tuen Mun Intergrated Service for Young People and St. James' Settlement), which help to reallocate the resources to the needy and minimize waste generation.

3 ways to reuse a tea bag

Whether you are a tea lover or not, you will be still interested to know how you can reuse a tea bag in a number of ways before throwing them into the garbage. In this issue of EcoPark newsletter, we will bring you the three ways of reusing a tea bag :

  1. Deodorize smell - deodorize smell from shoes by putting used dry tea bags into your shoes;
  2. Eye Treatment - tea bag can be a good treatment for eye. So lie back with warm or refrigerated tea bags over your eyes, and the tannic acids in the tea can help stimulating blood circulation and lightening dark circles under your eyes;
  3. Ease the pain caused by sunburn – simply putting a damp and cool tea bag on sunburned skin for about 30 minutes, the tannic acids in tea can help soothe and ease the pain caused by sunburn.
