The Government has continuously devoted to promoting solid waste recycling. In 2005, Environmental Protection Department (EPD) launched the programme on Source Separation of Waste (SSW). Up till now, over 1,600 estates have signed up to join the SSW programme, and the recovery rate of solid waste has increased steadily over the past years. In the light of the trend of filling up of our existing landfills, we, the general public, should take more proactive actions to participate in waste separation for the betterment of the environment.

EcoPark Visitor Centre displays the correlation between society development and solid waste generation. The Centre is equipped with a life-size landfill model to enable visitors to understand the imminent solid waste problems and importance of waste reduction. Through the exhibits displayed at Product Gallery, visitors can have better understanding of the production processes of various recycling industries and their associated recycled products, thereby encouraging public’s support to local recycling industries.

The multimedia exhibits and interactive games in the Visitor Center facilitate visitors to understand that society development and environment conservation can coexist with each other, aiming to encourage public to get more involved in separation and collection of recyclable wastes, such as computers, rechargeable batteries, plastics, metals and so on. In doing so, visitors not only can contribute to waste reduction, but also can promote development of recycling industries and practice low-carbon living.
