Friends of EcoPark - More effort to protect our Environment

In today's companies' mission and vision, in addition to making the expected profit and provide quality services, many companies has put a lot of resources in social responsibility work in recent years, the purpose is to make a greater commitment to the community and contribution. Besides to participation in community and charity activities, environmental protection is also one of the key areas they are looking at.

"Friends of EcoPark" scheme is one of the major events in the EcoPark. Through the partnership relations with EcoPark's tenants, all companies and organisations can be nominated. The successful nominees of "Friends of EcoPark", will be issued a certificate. Moreover, once the successful nominees become our "Friends of EcoPark", they are eligible to use the "Friends of EcoPark" logo on various promotional activities and items to their customers and the public, in order to present a positive image of caring for the environment. By promoting the "Friends of EcoPark" program, we would like to encourage more responses from different industries in Hong Kong to participate more environmental activities, working towards waste recovery and recycling.

EcoPark's first participation in Eco Expo Asia

EcoPark took part in Eco Expo Asia 2010 from 3 to 6 Nov 2010. EcoPark grasped this opportunity to introduce itself to the public and the industrial and commercial circles. Moreover, a communication platform was provided to EcoPark's tenants for seeking business opportunities and altogether joined hands in promoting the development of local recycling business.

EcoPark exhibited its unique environmental park's design and diversified facilities at the Eco Expo. The tenants of EcoPark also introduced their recycling projects and processes within the park to public in order to providing them with more environmental protection messages.

EcoPark offered related information about EcoPark Phase II to interested recycling companies at the Eco Expo and shared experiences together for creating a better environment to tenants.

"Green Restaurant – Jointly Promote Waste Recycling" Luncheon Meeting

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) launched "Green Restaurant – Jointly Promote Waste Recycling" Luncheon Meeting on 8 November 2010. The luncheon meeting aims to provide catering industries with latest information about waste recycling and encourage the industries taking initiative to assist development of green industry. It is anticipated that less food scraps are produced and waste cooking oil is managed in a more effective way. Ms. Wong Sean Yee, Anissa, JP, the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/the Director of Environmental Protection attended and officiated the luncheon meeting.

Ir. Kenny Wong, the Principal Consultant of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mr. Lui Ping Hon, the Principal Officer (Infrastructure Planning) of EPD, Mr. Tsui Wing Sing, the Senior Environmental Protection Officer (Business Facilitation) of EPD and Mr. Andrew Kwan, the Chief Executive Officer of Champway Technology Limited were invited to be honor speakers. The topics to be shared and discussed cover "Management of Food Scraps in Hong Kong", "Quality Restaurant Environmental Management" and "Management of Waste Cooking Oil" etc. The catering industries eagerly supported and attended the luncheon meeting and shared their valuable advices during the meeting.

Visit by Restaurant and Hotel Trade

A EcoPark Visit for the Restaurant/Hotel Trade was jointly organized by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the Management Office of EcoPark and the tenants of EcoPark on 13 Dec2010 (Monday). The Restaurant/Hotel Trade knew more information about environmental protection and operations of recycling industry within EcoPark during the visit. Moreover, a communication platform was built up between the restaurant/hotel trade and the tenants of EcoPark. It is expected that more and more waste materials will be offered to the tenants of EcoPark by the trade. Together join hands to promote development of local recycling industry. "Reduce Wastes, Use Resources Effectively".

Discover EcoPark
To further enhance service quality of docents from EcoPark and the Hong Kong Wetland Park, EcoPark organized an experience exchange program with Hong Kong Wetland Park in December 2010. The docents from the two Parks joined each other's visiting tours and observed respective touring services as well as shared experiences together.



Other than the exchange program with the Hong Kong Wetland Park, the docents has also participated in the training activities organized by the Environmental Protection Department of the Hong Kong Government. It aims to further update docents' knowledge on environmental protection and their presentation skills in which a better service quality is provided for the visitors.

Sunshades Terracotta Louvres


While gazing at EcoPark distantly, you can find the Administration Building of the EcoPark surrounded by an orange brown external wall with pervious to light – Sunshades Terracotta Louvres. The Sunshades Terracotta Louvres, made of eco-blocks, lower the indoor temperature and indirectly reduce heat energy produced by air-conditioners.

Champway Technology Limited


Chamway Technology Ltd, established in 2005, collects used cooking oil and animal fat from catering industry, recycling and turning them into clean and green fuel – high quality biodiesel. It is required various technologies for transferring used cooking oil and animal into biodiesel. Let's guess what is the use of the facility on the left.

 
Answer: Collected waste cooking oil and animal fat are undergone the first processing step at the Waste Organic Grease Process Center without causing secondary pollution. Furthermore, the water and impurities are removed from the waste cooking oil and animal fat in here.
